Asad Shafiq interview at presentation, 1st test Australia 2016

Australian captain Steve Smith was all praising towards Pakistan side and especially Asad Shafiq. In his interview after the game Smith said that Pakistan played brilliantly and they almost took the game away. Asad Shafiq hit a record breaking hundred while batting at number six.

Asad in his interview after the game said that it was a close game in deed and his side would have loved to win this one. There was pressure but at the same time he was batting well in the nets hence the confidence was there to challenge Australia, Asad said. Asad and team Pakistan almost pulled out a miracle with his 137 in the second innings. Pakistan was chasing 490 runs in the first test and they eventually got out registering 450 runs. This is the fourth highest total in the last innings by any side.

There was a time when it looked Pakistan will get this one. Asad was batting really well in the middle. He did mention that as well saying that there was always a hope inside him about the total and the chasing. Asad said that he was just waiting for his moment.

He failed in the first innings but in the nets he was middling the ball properly so he knew it was just a matter of an innings and he will get back with runs. That is what happened in the second innings. He scored his 10th ton, 9th while batting at number six position.

Asad said that he was not expecting that ball from Starc which took him out. He was right about this one. The ball was 60 odd overs old and the wicket was not doing much as well and yet this one bounced high and surprised Asad with the pace on it. The Pakistani middle order batter praised his bowlers a lot. Asad produced some great partnerships with Amir, Wahab and Yasir. These three partnerships and they were big if you look at the scorecard put Smith and his men under a lot of pressure. All three of them were above 50 runs each.

Asad also said that he and his side are confident for the rest of the tour. The kind of game they wanted to start the series has come for them. They all had got some good batting practice. Pakistan adapted well to the conditions and certainly Australia will now have this in the back of their minds that they have to play really well against Pakistan else problems will come.
